About LLQP Canada: Independent Canadian Insurance Brokerage

  • Written by LLQP-licensed advisors
  • Canadian regulators only
  • Updated every 6 months

Who Runs This Site?

LLQP Canada is built and maintained by a small independent Canadian life insurance brokerage. We are licensed, regulated, and have been advising Canadian families and small businesses since 2014. We built this site because the existing LLQP resources were either too thin or too American. Everything here is written or reviewed by licensed advisors.

About LLQP Canada

LLQP Canada is an educational resource and recruiting site operated by an independent Canadian life insurance brokerage. We are licensed and regulated across most provinces. We help Canadians pass the LLQP exam, get licensed in their province, and put the right professional infrastructure, E&O insurance, MGA contracting, and mentorship, in place. We are a small team intentionally. We are not a 1-800 number. Every page on this site is written, reviewed, and updated by licensed advisors who have personally been through the LLQP and the provincial licensing process. We update the cost figures, exam mechanics, and regulatory references every six months.

Who we are

We are a small, family-owned independent life insurance brokerage based in Canada. We are not a national chain. We are not a call centre. We do not buy leads from the internet. We work the way insurance was meant to work – kitchen tables, long client relationships, and advice that is good enough to recommend to our own families. We do three things:

This is The LLQP Resource,
We Wish We Had…

Why did we build this site? Three years ago, a new advisor joining our team told us he had spent six weeks looking for clear, current, Canadian information about the LLQP and could not find it. The regulators were accurate but read like statute. The course providers were marketing. The forums were anecdotes. Half the search results were American.

So we wrote it ourselves. We pulled in two licensed advisors, one compliance officer, and a writer. We mapped the entire path, from the first Google search to the first commission cheque, and built one page for every major question. We update it twice a year because the cost figures and pass rates move.

If you find an error or something out of date, email us. We will fix it. We would rather be right than be quick.

What we believe about this industry

Three plain-spoken positions we hold:

1. Most Canadians are underinsured

Most Canadian families have less life insurance than they need, and most Canadian small business owners have no plan for what happens if they are unable to work. This is not an industry talking point. It is what the data and our years of conversations show us. The work matters because most clients are working with less protection than they should have.

2. Independent advice beats captive advice

When an advisor can only sell one carrier’s products, the recommendation is constrained from the start. Independent advisors can compare 15 to 20 carriers and recommend whatever is actually best. We chose the independent model because we believe it is better for clients.

3. Most new advisors are recruited poorly

New advisors are often recruited with promises of easy money and minimal effort. The reality is the opposite – the work is hard, the income is volatile, and the first year is slow. We tell candidates this on the first phone call. People who are not ready for that conversation are not ready for this career.

How we recruit (and why this site exists)

We sponsor a small number of new advisors each year. We are not trying to be the largest brokerage in Canada. We are trying to be a good one.

We look for these things in new advisors:

  • Real interest in the work, not just the income
  • Existing network – friends, family, former colleagues – to start with
  • Self-direction, but also coachability
  • Comfort with ambiguity and irregular income for the first 12 to 18 months
  • A willingness to do this for at least three years before judging whether it worked

If that sounds like you and you have either passed the LLQP or are studying for it, send us a note. We will set up a 30-minute conversation. There is no fee, no pressure, and no commitment on either side. We turn down most candidates because the fit is not right — we would rather both of us know that early.

Our editorial standards

Every page on this site follows the same rules:

  1. Canadian only. Canadian regulators, Canadian dollars, Canadian spelling, Canadian tax rules.
  2. Authorship and review by licensed advisors. Every author and reviewer is named, with their licence jurisdiction listed.
  3. Updated every six months. The last full review date is in the footer of every page.
  4. Cost figures and pass-rate statistics dated and sourced.
  5. No competitor naming. We compare provider categories and approaches, not individual companies, unless required for accuracy.
  6. No automated content. AI tools are used for research and editing only. Every page is written by a human and reviewed by a licensed advisor.

Where we are licensed

Our advisors are individually licensed in the provinces where they practice. As a brokerage, we hold corporate licences in most provinces where the LLQP applies. Quebec licensing is handled under that province’s PQAP framework, which is a separate program.

If you are in a province where we are not licensed, we may still be able to help with sponsorship discussions and education. We will tell you upfront if a sponsorship in your province is not possible.

Contact

The fastest way to reach us is the contact form on our Get Started page. We respond within one business day. We are not a 1-800 number, your message will be read and replied to by an actual licensed advisor. If you have a media or partnership inquiry, please mark your message accordingly.

Your FAQs, Our Honest Answers

No. LLQP Canada is the educational and recruiting site of an independent Canadian brokerage. The official regulators are CISRO (curriculum and exam standards), FSRA (Ontario), the Insurance Council of BC, the Alberta Insurance Council, and the equivalent bodies in other provinces. Always confirm licensing requirements with your provincial regulator before applying.

Yes. Every page on this site is free. We do not sell courses or sample exams. We do offer sponsorship to a small number of new advisors each year, that is how we are connected to the industry.

No. We are not a CISRO-approved course provider. We compare the providers honestly because we have no commercial interest in any particular one. Our preferred providers are listed on /llqp-course/ based on our experience with new advisors who studied with them.

We update them every six months. The last full review date is in every page footer. If you find a figure that looks out of date, please email us, we want to know. The figures are based on publicly available CISRO and provincial regulator data, supplemented by direct conversations with course providers.

No. We do not sell, share, or rent contact information. If you contact us about sponsorship, your information is used only for that conversation. See our privacy policy for the formal language.
