LLQP Licensing Overview

The LLQP exam is national, but your licence is provincial. Every province has its own regulator, application form, fee schedule, sponsorship requirement, and processing time. This hub links to the detail page for each province. Pick yours below and follow that province’s exact process.

LLQP Licensing in Canada

Once you pass the LLQP, your next step is to apply for a life and accident-and-sickness licence in the province where you intend to do business. The exam is the same everywhere, the application is not. Ontario uses FSRA, British Columbia uses the Insurance Council of BC, and so on. Each province has its own fee, its own sponsorship rule, its own criminal-record-check requirement, and its own processing timeline.

Why Quebec is not on this list

Quebec is the only Canadian province that does not use the LLQP. It uses the PQAP (Programme de qualification en assurance de personnes), administered by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and the Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF). If you intend to work in Quebec, you take the PQAP instead. → Click here for information.
